Below are some reasons why challenge coins are popular among retirees.
First impressions matter - this is true enough for any type of gift. For a challenge coin, creating the unique type can feel overwhelming but we have made it easy for our customers. Whether you envision a bottle opener type for that buddy who enjoys a cold beer at night, one with a spinner, or a simple yet elegant round coin - we got you covered.
Apart from the design, at Custom Challenge Coins, we also offer two vastly different options to mold a coin.
We understand that keepsakes are not just something you display for dust to accumulate. It is made of life experiences all rolled into one and oftentimes brought everywhere you go. A challenge coin allows a person to remember the good olโ days and can be a good way to strike a conversation among fellow retirees.
We often find quality and affordability inversely proportional and it is even harder when you are pushed to the corner of having to sacrifice quality to consider your budget. Challenge coins transcend this norm as long as you find yourself a reputable coin provider. Latest innovation in production allows suppliers to produce coins that customers can feel confident about.

Challenge coins have various processes and types of coins to achieve different design stylings. Simply put, Soft Enamel are textured, with the enamel filled below the metal ridges, while Hard Enamel are smooth, the overfilled enamel polished smooth against the metal. You can have one side of your coin be soft enamel and the other side be hard enamel.
Challenge coins can come in a variety of sizes and shapes but the most common coin size is 2.0”, followed by 1.75” and then 1.5”. If we have concerns about your selection our team will let you know the optimal size of your coin based on your design.
The majority of our coins are die struck into brass. Large, custom shaped, or designs with large cutout areas will be cast from a zinc alloy. We made a video that goes into further details here.
Die struck coins have the designs transferred to a front & back mold, the raw brass being struck by each mold with enough force to transfer both the raised & recessed areas of the design into the brass. Die Cast molds are fit together and molten zinc metal is injected into the die to create the coin blank. You can also read our article in our resources section here!
