What are Fraternity Challenge Coins?

Brotherhood - this is the kind of bond formed in a fraternity that surpasses time. Both young men and women in colleges and universities across the country gather together to share similar interests and get involved in competitions. With numerous fraternities and various chapters in the world, it is definitely hard to find a way to distinguish the members and the connection each one has established through the years.

Fraternity Challenge Coins

Custom Challenge Coins has nearly a decade of dedicated work to provide customized challenge coins to various industries of business, military, government and educational institutions. We are committed to making sure our customers achieve a coin product that they envision. Whichever prestigious fraternity you are part of: Sigma Alpha Epsilon, Alpha Phi Alpha, Pi Kappa Alpha, or The Kappa Alpha Society - we definitely can help you! Let our expert team of designers and customer care assist you in showing how you value the contribution of your fraternity’s members and alumni!

Below are reasons why fraternity coins are gaining popularity these days.

Symbolizes Culture and Tradition

No fraternities are the same and even with the same frat - different chapters still distinguish each other. Fraternal secret societies started adopting Greek life system following its first established organization and are greatly separated by the ideologies they follow. A challenge coin being versatile allows unique names, mottos and symbols of each fraternity be etched on it thus showing the type of culture each member belongs to. Furthermore, passing on a challenge coin is a good way to start tradition within the organization and extend their influence.

Shows Appreciation

Being part of a fraternity does not end when you graduate from college. The connection you form within the members of the organization is unified beyond school grounds. Appreciating alumni is one of the formidable activities a fraternity does and commonly done with pins, hats, jackets, shirts, etc. Challenge coins are gaining popularity because of their durability and style that is tested by time.

Uniqueness and full of Personality

With the ability of customizing challenge coins, exhibiting a sense of uniqueness and revealing a design that’s full of personality is not hard to achieve. You can opt to have a one-sided or a double-sided coin. Options for shapes limitless and sizes can vary depending on your fraternity’s needs and choice of style. Your members and the entire fraternity’s personality and interests matter in these coins.

Design Coin Questions

Q. What's the Difference Between Soft Enamel and Hard Enamel Challenge Coins?

Challenge coins have various processes and types of coins to achieve different design stylings. Simply put, Soft Enamel are textured, with the enamel filled below the metal ridges, while Hard Enamel are smooth, the overfilled enamel polished smooth against the metal. You can have one side of your coin be soft enamel and the other side be hard enamel.

Q. What is the Typical Size of a Challenge Coin?

Challenge coins can come in a variety of sizes and shapes but the most common coin size is 2.0”, followed by 1.75” and then 1.5”. If we have concerns about your selection our team will let you know the optimal size of your coin based on your design.

Q. What Are My Challenge Coins Made From?

The majority of our coins are die struck into brass. Large, custom shaped, or designs with large cutout areas will be cast from a zinc alloy. We made a video that goes into further details here.

Q. Difference Between Die Struck and Die Cast Challenge Coin?

Die struck coins have the designs transferred to a front & back mold, the raw brass being struck by each mold with enough force to transfer both the raised & recessed areas of the design into the brass. Die Cast molds are fit together and molten zinc metal is injected into the die to create the coin blank. You can also read our article in our resources section here!
